Includes facsimiles of Stevenson s manuscript pages. Frontispiece portrait, nine facsimiles. Three-quarter vellum over rust cloth sides.

 

As described in the volume's opening notes, the Bibliophile Society had previously published a two-volume set of Stevenson's poems in 1916 during the height of World War I. The tumultuous times prohibited a complete study of Stevenson's works. Following the war, Stevenson's works were able to be more completely studied and collected leading to the Bibliophile Society's updated publication of this volume of POEMS OF ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON HITHERTO UNPUBLISHED. The book in this listing is one of 450 published. In its original double slipcase, the volume and boxes show moderate to heavy soiling and shelf-wear.

 

CONDITION: Well-worn boxes, signs of wear on book outside; internally bright and clean pages.

  • Outermost slipcase with spine label: Terracotta cloth over cardboard slipcase. Heavy soiling on top and spine. Label shows wear but is readable. Structurally it is in good condition.
  • Inner slipcase: Terracotta cloth over cardboard slipcase lined with cream felt. Shows edge wear. Structurally it is in good condition.
  • Book: Hardcover in good Condition. The terracotta Three-quarter vellum over rust cloth covered boards. Heavy foxing over the lower third of the spine vellum partially obscuring The Bibliophile Society name. Gold-gilt font remains readable. Soiling over vellum book corners. Inside: The pages are remarkably crisp and clean. The binding is very good. Light foxing over closed page edges. At the rear of the book, there is a tear in the paper at the inside spine joint between the back cover and book body. ~1 tear with exposure of netting below (Cosmetic and not altering structure).
